‘Abangani’ is an isiZulu word, which means ‘friends’. We as Abangani Media would like to make friends with people from different backgrounds, cultures and continents. We’d like to make a positive impact in South Africa, while working for companies all over the world.


We often use Laravel & VueJS for the development of smaller applications. Laravel is the most popular PHP framework worldwide and because of its rapid development features, it allows us to develop applications relatively quickly.


We use .NET & Angular for the development of larger enterprise solutions. .NET is a high quality development framework, which enables us to develop secure and stable solutions.

We use WordPress for small, brochure type of websites. We build WordPress themes & plugins mainly for advertising agencies, which outsource their dev work to us.

I am Hein van Vlastuin. I have been in South Africa since 2011. Originally I came as an academic researcher, and I was meant to stay for six months only, but I decided to stay longer. I love South Africa and its people.

I have been working as a website developer for over 15 years. As a young student I started my own website development company, Heinosoft. After running the company for a couple of years, I had the opportunity to sell the company.

In 2015 I decided to start working for myself again. It is my mission to build an innovative company which makes a positive impact in South Africa. I believe that South Africa is well equipped to build a strong IT industry.

Originally I started working by myself, but currently we have employed close to ten developers and designers.

Abangani Media’s mission is to create jobs for young & talented developers in South Africa.

We believe that by job creation, black empowerment & skills development we contribute towards the further development and transformation of South Africa. Besides employing black developers, who also train young IT students. Currently our training program is mostly informal, but we’d like to further develop this program in the future.

Together with the African Schools for Excellence we are developing a quality coding program for a high school in the Tsakane township. The goal is to train the students in such a way that they will be job ready when they finish the high school program.
