Dr Padilha was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to Johannesburg at the end of primary school. He matriculated from St John’s College and enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School. Not only is Dr Venter a skilled surgeon, but she is one of the most caring and compassionate doctors I have ever met. Dr Venter had the horrible task of telling me that I have 2 choices – a full mastectomy or skin saving mastectomy. I opted for the latter and the dorsi flap operation was done in January 2017.

Dr Venter was an absolute Godsend! She was kind and gracious and treated me and my family with the utmost respect. She took the time to explain every detail of the operation and promised that I would have 2 normal looking breasts. She kept her promise and I couldn’t be more pleased. She gave me back what cancer took away and it was comforting to finally feel a sense of normalcy once again.

Healing takes a while and the aspiration is a pain but all worth it in the end. I have some numbness around the area that was operated on and a scar that is hidden but other than that I am perfectly normal and still have good use of my arm.
