4worldlovers: The importance of Mandela Day, celebrated each year on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, July 18, can be summed up in one quote from the iconic leader.

In keeping with the spirit of generosity espoused by the late statesman, this year on Mandela Day, the South African Red Cross Soweto branch will receive a new Computer Lab from community station Jozi FM that will benefit over 60 children that belong to the center’s After School Care Programme.

The learners, who come from schools around the center which is based in Rockville, Soweto, are between the ages of 7 and 15 and are orphans and vulnerable children. They rely on the center every afternoon to give them a warm meal, and some assistance with their homework.

With the establishment of the computer lab, center manager Mantshadi Moralo said she is confident this generous donation by the station will help them, help the children better. “The computer lab will help us expose these young children to technological advancements, which will also leave them with important skills, especially now that we are all talking about the fourth industrial revolution” Moralo said.

“We are grateful to Jozi FM CEO Mpho Mhlongo for raising funds to build a computer lab, and also thank the numerous other sponsors for their gesture of kindness this Mandela Day. We are certain that with all their donations we will be able to improve the lives of our children,” Moralo added.
